Choices

Hi Sarah,
another example of the flexible learning that goes into the building of the go karts is choices. The students have choices on what designs and styles they want in conjunction with race rules.
They do sketch design sketch work and also use the net for other designs. For easy reference they use older karts from previous years for tips about handling and steering geometry and footage from previous grass kart challenges. The learning here comes from the choices.

  1. Hi Nick Bronwyn here. This sounds like a good idea to use previous go karts as examples. Do you use the poor designs as a teaching tool to show them what can go wrong?

    1. Hi Bronwyn,
we go over designs that have failed from previous years, we have one in our workshop at the moment from a high school in town, it looks flash,it is fast but handles like a lemon,( their terminology not mine)we then look what they have to do to make their karts handle, we instill the project base learning first then apply the theory.

  2. Sounds good Nick - nothing like a lemon for setting the scene. :)
